Help Remove Abandoned Crab Traps and learn more about this Galveston Bay Foundation Program
“In 2011, Galveston Bay Foundation staff and volunteers removed 407 abandoned traps from Trinity Bay and the Trinity River delta.” This year, one of the locations is situated in our MoKa Bayous Alliance Project area (the Galveston Fat Boys Ramp on Tiki Island)!
This Saturday, Feb. 18th from 8-12, you can help pull crab traps or disassemble them. Removing the abandoned traps will help prevent damage to seagrasses and boat propellers. They are also a danger for wildlife, fish, turtles, and crabs. For a list of locations and more information, read today’s Houston Chronicle article here.
Monofilament Marina Clean-Up in Galveston
Also this Saturday, Feb. 18th from 8-12
“You don’t have to be affiliated with a group. Just show up with scissors, gardening gloves, and shoes for walking on rocks.” Read The Daily News article “Monofilament cleanup helps save lives” for the location and more information about the benefits of this project.
